This is our final cut.
Audience feedback: post your video on you tube/Facebook and get your friends to leave feedback.
For our audience feedback we collected feedback from multiple sources. Firstly we posted our final video on to you tube and Facebook, we then received a mixture of positive and negative feedback which we found very useful and we took as constructive feedback. Secondly I went around our boarding house showing a mixture of people our video and then I filmed them saying what they liked and disliked about it. I feel as if the feedback has given us a lot to think about and will definitely be useful for future reference, I also found that getting feedback from people via Facebook worked very well as we were able to collect feedback from a wide range of people who vary in different ages, gender, film preference and much more. From this task we have learnt how to take on both positive and negative feedback as we now know other peoples views on our opening it has picked out particular parts in where we can improve for example in, mis en scene, sound, editing, lighting etc…
For this video we collected audience feedback from all females and obviously our film will be aimed towards men around the age of 20, this is why we only asked men for feedback on our video via Facebook so that we could collect a range of mixed reviews. For this task I made and edited the whole video and Vanshika asked for feedback via Facebook, I also asked another person via Facebook because i felt as if i needed more feedback from men in the age range of my chosen perfect audience member.
Developed skills:looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
In this task Eliza and I discussed what we have picked up and learned from when we made out first preliminary task to when we made our final product. We feel as if our skills have developed significantly.
We also learnt many more skills associated with WordPress as we didn’t really understand how to blog when making our preliminary video, whereas now we are both confident in how to use the site when it comes to categorizing and tagging posts we find it easy. We have also been uploading multiple videos on to you tube and have developed a further understanding of the site.
Technology:What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
Technology has been a huge part of how we made and produced our final product.
To edit our film we used the software I movie to create the film we wanted, The editing is extremely important because it brings all of our shots together to create the story for an audience. The titles were also made on I movie because we were able to find a font that fitted in with the film noir genre and we were able to place the titles wherever we wanted. Overall I movie has been amazing compared to other software’s such as splice and windows movie maker. Our editing skills have thoroughly developed from my use of titles to making me think lots more about the representation it brings to the screen and the audience.
I used a Nikon Coolpix to film our film with other accessories such as a tripod for stationary shots. this camera is very good because it shot sharp and non shaky images for my film and shows much better lighting than a phone, I also found it very easy to upload the film from the camera on to the laptop. The footage also took up very little space on the camera so I didn’t have to delete any failed shots. I learned how the camera worked when we went out filming as I was able to experiment with how the lighting contrasted against the camera lens.
Through the use of exhibiting my film I used the platform you tube, so that anyone is able to view our opening without any hasil. I used you tube to upload my final edit on to WordPress then my work can be shown with my post production and evaluation. From this process I have learned how to easily upload a video to you tube.I also used you tube to find the right soundtrack for our opening… we were able to search for non copyright music and we came across the artist Nicholas Payton whom immediately stood out to us because of his non mainstream music.
We used a Macbook Pro to edit all of our footage. This gave us the tools and software to complete our film to the standard that we wanted it to be. With this powerful laptop I was able to make my film without any problems taking place and with a high resolution.
I used all of these different technologies because they suit my style of making and producing films, mainly through the use of I movie because it enabled me to easily put all of my shots together and transfer my ideas on to the screen. All of the technology I used has created a enjoyable and good quality film that an audience should enjoy.
Audience attractions: How did you attract/address your audience?
From gathering key shots, I have learned that we will be able to attract the audience in different ways. I did annotations on to some screenshots of our film explaining how it would attract the audience to our film. Overall I feel as if my thoughts have been covered on the parts that the audience will be drawn to.
Perfect audience member:Who would be the audience for your media product?
This would be the image for my perfect audience member, he is a hipster viewer in between the age of 18 and 28, his background is a university student based in a city like London studying the arts, this is the typical stereotype of a hipster whom is a person who follows the latest trends and fashions, especially those regarded as being outside the cultural mainstream.
His interest in music includes indie and jazz music, he listens to this because it helps him express himself when working. He doesn’t watch very much TV if at all because he is busy working and usually watches films when he is free. His upbringing leads him to this character with the upper class vibe that you get from this picture.
We decided that these people would be our perfect audience members because a very low percentage of people actually watch film noir these days, so we figured out that the majority of film noir viewers are hipsters studying film or the arts in university.
Choice of logo and production company:What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
Our logo and why we chose it:
We chose to make our logo like this because we were set on making ourselves stand out, our logo is used to show a symbol for our production company, I chose the lotus flower symbol because it is modern, simple and yet effective, we also chose this certain style of font because it looks similar to an old typewriter which fits in well with our chosen theme of fim noir. When making our logo we wanted to make sure that it was visible and could be clearly seen by an audience, hence why we chose white writing over a black background so that it would stand out. The fact that two of the main colours used are black and white links to our genre of film noir.
Production company name and why we chose it:
We chose the name “lotus productions” because it clearly states that we specialise in film production so it is obvious to any viewers. This name gives the company a reputation for the process of film production, creating content.
We chose to include lotus in to the title because anybody who has ever observed a lotus flower emerging from a murky pond cannot fail to see the beauty of this exquisite plant. The flower always looks so clean and pure against the background of the dirty pond, hence why it stands out against our black background and looks aesthetically pleasing.
Chosen production company and why we chose it:
A production company essentially helps to create the film-it assists in the budgeting, scheduling, scripting, casting and more. The company usually looks over the film from when its just an idea all the way through to completion.
There are responsibilities for finding a director as well as finding the majority of acting talent that is required. However they are also responsible if anything were to go wrong in the film for example an actor being injured or property being damaged.
We chose Warner brothers to produce our film because they have had past experience with multiple film noir genre films… for example the Maltese Falcon, The Big Sleep, Crime Wave, Dark Passage and many more. This gives us the information that they have experience with producing film noir films and that they would be a good choice for our own film.
